Christmas Countdown

Before I begin sharing our fun first week of Christmas preparations, I should first give a quick update on the Jace situation. First of all, sickness.  He was pretty much over his previous sickness and now he is sick again! I am actually not convinced he truly got over it the first time.  I have a feeling it's going to be a long winter...  Last winter I was nursing him so, of course, he hardly got sick at all. (Even when I was throwing up while he was attached to me nursing, but that is a whole other story!) So, 3 o'clock this afternoon we are going in again to see what is up.  We have the Connor family Christmas this weekend and I want to make sure we aren't coming to get everyone else sick!  Secondly, his sleep schedule.  I have had some small successes.  He goes down quicker and we have had some nights where he slept fantastic!  (Like not waking up from 730 pm until 430 am fantastic.)  The funniest part about this story is that C has the uncanny ability to lay Jace down without rocking and sing to him briefly, walk out of the room with Jace's eyes wide open, and Jace will fall asleep. All without CRYING ONE BIT!  I have tried this and he is wailing before I get to the door.  So, I know he CAN do it, he just doesn't want to do it with me.  So, needless to say, C has put Jace to bed all week! Since C is at work all day during the week, we have yet to see if this will work for him with naps too, however, I have my doubts.

Anyway, Christmas!!  We have had so much fun with our chain link countdown.  I can't help but do a little recap for you of each day so far.  We are one day behind because a certain little someone wouldn't eat his supper, therefore we couldn't do our activity, but other than that we have completed them all, to the best of our ability.

Day #1: Retell the Christmas story using our kid nativity set
We have a little people nativity, used the people house as the inn.
The nativity oddly enough, didn't come with shepherds, so we improvised!

Day #2: Read Luke 2, Story of Jesus' birth

Day #3: Make a gingerbread house (this was really fun!)

Notice that our gingerbread house had to be "just" like the picture on the box!

Day #4: Make a Popcorn String

This one turned out to be a bit of a failure.  On my part.  I couldn't for the life of my find my needles.  Still not sure what happened to them (insert frazzled face) so we ended up just eating the popcorn, which according to Davis and Jace was probably better anyway!!

Day #5: Make an edible nativity scene

Day #6: paper snowflakes

We are on day #7 now, still trying to catch up from being one behind but I am short supplies so I need to go to the store before we can finish that one. Meanwhile, we put up the Christmas tree a few days after Thanksgiving and since we now have snow, Jace got to have his first romp in the snow.  He wasn't exactly thrilled with his face being cold so we weren't out long but I got some pictures, anyway.

Also, my church does a Women's Christmas dessert program every December, which is a fabulous night out for ladies.  My small group has, for the last 2 years decorated a table and attended together.  Last minute, one of the girls had to cancel, which opened up a ticket.  I called my mom and asked her to come with me so she drove the 3 hours and came with me.  We had a great time listening to Christmas carols sung by some lovely and talented ladies in our church, followed by an inspiring message of hope and joy from a young widow, all topped off with delicious dessert and great fellowship.
me and my mommy : )

The beautiful ladies at my table.

Ahhhh, Christmas time.  I love it!
